ABOUT US

KCC brings together a diverse community of campers and caring staff to foster an understanding of cultural diversity.

Love

We believe that when children genuinely love and enjoy the education process, they’ll become lifelong learners who develop a natural affection for scholarship.

Embrace

We believe that inspiring children to use their education to celebrate diversity and build character, helps alleviate societal prejudices and misconceptions.

Live

We believe that when children learn about healthy living, they make smart and mindful choices.

AT OUR CORE

We Value Love.

As modeled daily by KCC’s mom-team, we treat each child with love and compassion throughout the learning experience as if they are our very own. Yet, the impact goes beyond delivering phenomenal lesson plans. By intentionally weaving love and learning into every aspect of our programming, education is enjoyable and the bonds between instructors, children, and their peers are ever present.
AT OUR CORE

We Embrace All Cultures.

Embrace is defined as “an act of accepting or supporting something willingly or enthusiastically”. When our children understand and appreciate each other, they help make this world better.

KCC embraces cultures from all angles by immersing children into visual and performing arts, math, science, language, technology, cooking, chess, and physical fitness.

AT OUR CORE

We Believe in Mindful Living.

By becoming more conscience of the foods they put in their bodies, their daily physical activity, and the diverse make-up of those around them, children can cultivate a mindset to thrive in tomorrow’s global society. KCC’s culinary arts classes and cookbook encourage families to live mindfully by introducing unfamiliar cultures by sampling tasty, healthy cuisine, while also utilizing measurements to sharpen math skills. In addition to our carefully crafted hands-on curriculum, sports played internationally are an integral part of encouraging families to achieve optimal health, while celebrating cultural traditions and differences through physical activity.

MEET OUR FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Jania Otey

Kids and Culture Camp has been a true labor of love since its inception in 2010. Founder & Executive Director Jania Otey’s purpose in founding KCC is to instill excitement and appreciation for learning about cultures from around the globe in our children while providing a safe and nurturing environment.

Jania holds a B.A. degree in Political Science and a J.D. degree from Howard University. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland and Washington, D.C. where she worked at a large law firm before starting her own practice. Although she continues to keep her bars active, Jania devotes most of her time to educating and shaping the hearts of her two boys, being a wife, working in the church, and speaking across the nation nationally and internationally.

She also spends a great deal of time advising parents who are considering homeschooling or who are newbies to the home-education scene. Jania has a natural gift for organizational leadership and she is certified in CPR and Basic First Aid and has homeschooled her children since 2005.
